AMP 33 Center Console Review: 90mph+ Poker Run Edition!

A high-performance 33-foot center console by American Marine Performance, the AMP 333 delivers impressive speed, luxury detailing, and precision craftsmanship.

Smaller custom boat builders can go ALL OUT on their builds and that is what Pompano Beach, Florida-based American Marine Performance (AMP) did on its new 33’ Center Console, the AMP 333. This boat was built for the performance enthusiast so it is eye-catching as well as loaded with power and dock appeal.

Power And Performance

Starting with power, the AMP 333 is available with twin or triple Mercury Racing 300R, 400R, 450R or the 500Rs, which the “Poker Run Edition” boat we sea-trialed boasted. While the boat can achieve 93-mph top speed, we gave her a good run at 50 mph in fairly smooth water and found the handling and torque impressive. The 22-degree deadrise is steep enough to cut through waves efficiently, providing excellent stability, yet moderate enough to maintain speed and fuel efficiency. Her stepped hull was born in Brazil under the name ARTH Boats and after selling well in South America, the owner chose to test the North American waters and re-branded under the name American Marine Performance in 2023. The AMP 33 Center Console’s stepped hull gives her high-speed capability by reducing drag and improving lift, allowing it to glide more smoothly on the water surface. This design innovation optimizes speed without sacrificing control, which is a critical factor for performance boats. It also results in quicker plane times and precise handling at high speeds, setting it apart from many traditional deep-V hulls in the same category.

Other Engine Options and Their Impact on Performance

The AMP 333’s versatility shines in its range of engine configurations beyond the model we tested, each catering to a different type of boater and performance requirement. AMP offers options that range from twin to triple Mercury Racing engines, specifically designed for high performance. Here’s a breakdown:

    • Twin or Triple Mercury Racing 300R Engines
Equipped with twin or triple 300R outboards, the AMP 333 can reach impressive speeds while maintaining excellent fuel efficiency. The 300R is ideal for boaters who enjoy quick acceleration and smooth cruising without reaching the extreme upper limits of speed.
    • Twin or Triple Mercury Racing 400R (V-10) Engines
For those seeking an adrenaline boost, the 400R V-10 configuration offers a substantial power upgrade. With increased torque and horsepower, the 400R gives the AMP 333 enhanced responsiveness, particularly noticeable in acceleration from idle to mid-range speeds. This configuration is popular among users who want a combination of speed and cruising efficiency.
    • Twin or Triple Mercury Racing 450R Engines
The 450R is the go-to for speed enthusiasts. Known for its raw power, this engine setup allows the AMP 333 to perform at an entirely new level. With 450 horsepower per engine, this configuration delivers serious torque, enabling the boat to cut through rougher waters with ease while maintaining high speeds.
    • Twin or Triple Mercury Racing 500R Engines
The ultimate performance option, the 500R configuration transforms the AMP 333 into a high-performance powerhouse. Known for its unparalleled top-end speed, this setup is favored by those looking to push the boat to its maximum capabilities, reaching speeds around 93 mph. The 500R engines deliver extraordinary acceleration, ensuring that the AMP 333 can hold its own in any performance boating scene.

Build Details

With the mold done by Marine Concepts, the boats are built in Pompano Beach and all work is done in-house except the upholstery, masterfully handled by Miami Prestige. The detail in the red diamond contrast stitching, with heavy automotive influence throughout, is matched by the red contrasted speaker cover rims—and there are a LOT of them! Eight JL Audio speakers line the back of the carbon fiber T-top and four more grace the front with an assortment of speakers and subwoofers distributed throughout the bow, console and deck—and the GatorStep deck is also contrasted with red accents.

But the attention to detail is not all show, we could also see the precision in the rigging, behind protective hatches, and the installation of the JL Audio system to port, both done inside the console (which also houses a head and berth).

Seating & T-Top

Seating is abundant with bow lounges, four seats across the transom and two rows of twin seats are under the T-Top, giving the driver and passengers a comfortable ride, complete with grab handles as you’ll want to hold on when the AMP 333 charges on plane! Also under the T-top and lining its supports is a fancy star-studded liner with blinking lights, reminiscent of a Rolls or Bentley—just another touch of eye candy for this boat.

At The Helm

The helm is protected by a glass windshield and has raised, angled dual Garmin screens, redundant switches, Mercury controls and a carbon fiber steering wheel. An appreciated feature is the boarding steps build into the gunwales to facilitate entry and exit from the deep-freeboard hull. There are lots of storage beneath hatches and while you might want to drop a line while out on this dayboat, I can’t imagine getting blood on this deck—the wrong contrasting red for this brightly painted, upholstered and detailed center console!

Wrap Up

The team at AMP is experienced and ready to build more 333s, but they are also working on a 43’ center console and a 37’ catamaran, so stay tuned for more if you’re ready to AMP-up your on-water lifestyle!
