A refined yet adventurous spirit defines Fjord’s new 39 XP offering the best of both Scandinavian minimalism and Mediterranean luxury.
Fjord, the name invokes a vision of a deep blue sea inlet, surrounded by cliffs, distinctly Norwegian. That same vision is imagined when riding in a Fjord powerboat—like I should be on a fjord, in a Fjord, exploring and relishing adventure on the water!
About The Builder
The brand has been building seafaring boats since the 1950s, started by scrappy Norwegian craftsman and seamen. The brand was reimagined with modern lines and engineering when bought in the early 2000s by the Hans Group, one of the world’s largest sail and power yacht builders. Traditionally diesel-powered boats, the new Fjord XP 39 model with twin V10 Mercury outboards, recently debuted in the U.S. this year through Fjord North America, represented by Yacht Sales International in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Sea Trial
We sea trialed the boat with YSI on a breezy day through downtown’s New River and out through the Port of Everglades, and were treated to an exciting ride, thanks to the axe bow, deep-V hull and its excellent handling. It was a great way to really get a feel for what she’s capable of and experience firsthand her seaworthiness and performance.

Cockpit Overview
Spacious aptly describes the Fjord powerboat from all aspects, as its 12’8” beam provides plenty of space to move around the boat’s cockpit with a synthetic teak deck, making entertaining large groups of guests easy. There are many customization options in the Fjord build, including color, configurations of space, tones and textures of the décor, but the layout of the 39 XP we experienced showed the flexibility, comfort and elegance of the Scandinavian clear-cut design and build, the Mediterranean luxurious feel and the practicality of German engineering.
I sincerely called it “best of all worlds” because everything felt so orderly and comfortable. After a quick summer storm, we quickly toweled down the angular surfaces and set out, appreciating the crisply upholstered, patterned bench seats, the two large teak tables and a huge, tall T-top. The top’s two robust supports are integrated into the gunwales, providing walkaround space and room for the top to cover from helm, complete with a full glass windshield and side wind-blocking flares, to the table seating. An additional electrical sunshade can cover the aft-facing sun pad, while solar panels on the T-top help power onboard electrical accessories.
Helm Controls
The helm of the 39 XP has raised Simrad screens to interface with the Mercury joystick and the horizontal glossy black dash layout keeps all controls, including the Humphree Interceptors, close at hand, whether you’re standing or seated. She can be configured with either two or three adjustable helm seats all with supportive bolsters. The anchor windlass is operable directly from the helm, and the dash features an optional Sidepower bow thruster.
Power And Performance
The twin Mercury V10 400 HP outboards give the 39 XP a comfortable and powerful ride as the infused V-hull lifts out of the water to plane, cruising easily at 40 mph at 5,100 RPM, meeting the water gently with no pounding, shakes or rattles. The boat feels solid and the handling—like driving a sports car.
Key Features
The summer kitchen offers a deep sink and cutting board or an optional grill, with refrigeration and storage beneath. More deep storage under the aft deck is accessible by a step-down ladder, thanks to the outboard configuration, and mechanicals are easily accessed through a separate hatch. Again, practical and easy. Even the rectangular fenders have dedicated storage.
When the two dining tables are folded down, a second large sun pad literally unfolds, connecting to the aft deck lounge, so the boat lays out as well for relaxation as for entertainment. The bow offers more seating, a deep anchor locker and all the stainless accents, from the table top and cleats to the bow lounge arm rests and helm, reflect a touch of class at every angle.\
Below Deck
Below deck, a double berth with a separate head and shower offer guests convenience or the possibility of a romantic overnight, so whether you plan to entertain family and friends, bask in the sun or cruise into the sunset, the Fjord 39 XP can do so in classy comfort. (Also available in the XL version with Volvo Penta D4-320 diesel inboards.)
Take Aways
In conclusion, the Fjord 39 XP delivers an impressive blend of style, performance, and versatility that honors its Norwegian heritage while incorporating modern engineering and luxurious touches. Whether cruising coastal waters, hosting a group, or setting out for a weekend escape, this boat exemplifies a refined yet adventurous spirit. With its customizable options, powerful Mercury outboards, and thoughtful design elements throughout, the Fjord 39 XP is a true all-rounder that lets you experience the best of both Scandinavian minimalism and Mediterranean luxury. This is a boat built for those who seek both thrill and relaxation on the water, embodying the essence of exploration with elegance and ease.
