Hurricane Deck Boats is reaching past their traditional market by setting its sights on the angling center console segment with the introduction of their 2025 24CC. This nimble model is built for fishing but is still capable of family fun from towing to docktails.
Model Overview
The Hurricane 24CC is 24’ 2” LOA and carries a 9’ beam. It weighs around 4,400 pounds dry so it’s a substantial piece of machinery. You can board on either port or starboard via the aft platforms on of which also hides a telescoping ladder. A fixed seat takes up ¾ of the transom width and it’s a bit surprising that it doesn’t fold up to make more room in the cockpit for fishing.
Helm Controls
Just ahead is the helm with twin seats and bolsters. Our boat had a nicely integrated hardtop but a soft-top is standard. Our test boat had two 12-inch Garmin 1243xzv multifunction displays and an optional Garmin GMR 18 radar. The whole face of the helm console opens to reveal access to the wiring so you can work on the system without having to origami yourself into a small opening or work in an airless space below.
Sound System
Tunes were provided by a premium JL Ultimate sound system that comes with six 7.7” RGB speakers, two 10” RGB subwoofers, and 800w and 600w amps. The sound was clear and undistorted and I’m sure we ruffled a few feathers on the lake with both the volume and the choice of music.
Quick Walkthrough
A quick walkthrough showed 18 cup holders, some with a heating and cooling feature, and a wireless phone charger. Behind the helm, our boat had a 23-gallon baitwell with RGB light functionality. The bow was spacious and set up as a sunbed but if remove the center cushion and lift the table, you’ll have seating for six when entertaining. You can also chuck all the cushions and have a sizable casting deck with plenty of room at the port bow for a Min Kota trawling motor that connects to 36V batteries kept under the helm seat. Although the 24CC is rated for 11 persons, I think five fishing buddies would be more than comfortable for the day and never get in each other’s way.
Snap-in grey marine mat flooring was throughout and provided good nonskid properties as well as some cushioning underfoot which is key to minimizing fatigue when angling all day.
Power & Performance
We tested the 24 CC with the single Yamaha 350-hp outboard but max power is 400-hp and Hurricane advertises the boat as able to his speeds of over 50 mph. With two of us board, we reached 50.1 mph at wide-open-throttle on smooth waters, easily confirming that. She handled well with steady turns that didn’t dig in or skid out. A single outboard is the only propulsion choice but you can opt for different brands. Our boat came with Yamaha’s single outboard joystick handling which takes some getting used to as it doesn’t quite react like traditional joysticks. However, in close-quarters maneuvering, it does make the engine shift between gears quickly and spins the motor side-to-side without ever having to mess with the wheel. Onboard tankage includes 100 gallons of fuel and 18 gallons of water.
Fishing Features
Anglers will find plenty of places to park a rod. We had four rocket launchers on the aft end of the hardtop, eight holders across the transom, four more gunnel holders and even the optional drop-down cleats had a cutout where to stuff a rod in an emergency. When the fishing’s done, you can add a tow bar since this boat has more than enough power to get big guys out of the water. That said, the Power-Pole on port would have been an issue on our test boat if we had tried towing.
Competition And Market Position
The center console segment of boating is a busy one. Over the past five years, more models have been introduced there than in most of the rest of boating so it’s no wonder that Hurricane decided to dip its toe in to see if they too, could find success with lake and near-coastal anglers. Another reason the company may have ventured in this direction is to retain customers who may otherwise move from their Hurricane deck boat to another brand if angling is top-of-mind. With the introduction of the 24CC, they keep their loyal customers while expanding their functional market and possibly attracting other brand defectors looking for a good value.
Paint Colors
Our model had a lovely aquamarine green accent color that Hurricane calls “Intercoastal” and it looked like our test boat would be comfortable fishing off Key West. Kudos to the 24CC’s designers for developing such a good-looking model on their first go. Let’s see what the market thinks.
